Always attentive to environmental sustainability, the Nuova Icos Tannery has implemented an Energy Efficiency Project co-financed by the European Union, the Italian State and the Campania Region, from the POR Campania FESR 2014-2020.
The objectives underlying the project are the reduction of company energy consumption, the monitoring of the energy consumed, withdrawn and consumed and compliance with the ISO 50001 standard.
After a careful analysis of the energy carriers purchased by the Company (the steam obtained from boilers feeds methane, compressed air for the spraying systems, for the drums and for the leather treatment machines and the electrical energy for the machines and for the interventions of the auxiliaries), 3 fundamental interventions were implemented:
- The replacement of the compressors with a latest generation compressor with inverter technology which also provides for the use of a plate heat exchanger that allows to recover thermal energy from the compressed air leaving the compressor, both to be preheated and inlet and from the generators of steam.
- The extension replaced 57 kWp photovoltaic with registered by another of 19.44 kWp. The energy produced by this expansion, considering the Company’s consumption, is destined almost entirely to self-consumption (about 85%).
- The replacement of 5 light points on the ground floor (in the area where wet operations are present) with as many LED fixtures and the replacement of 20 watertight ceiling lights with as many an LED on the first floor. The intervention, in addition to generating an improvement in the lighting characteristics, guarantees a considerable reduction in energy consumption.
These interventions regulated the hiring of an energy management system confirmed to ISO 50001.
