On 11 and 12 July, the presentation of the “Dress Your Soul” sustainable fashion project at the “Phygital Sustainability Expo®”.
Always committed to giving a concrete response to sustainability, Nuova Icos adopts important measures in terms of environmental sustainability both with a view to saving water and energy resources and in the development of new tanning systems that do not use products containing heavy metals. This is why he decided to make his own contribution to the sustainable fashion project “Dress your soul” in collaboration with Nera, Codyeco, Bovat Srl and Sublitex for the production of biodegradable and compostable leather.
Specifically, Nuova Icos has dealt with the zeolite tanning process, using an innovative tanning method that does not involve the use of chromium, aldehyde and heavy metals, but only the use of a mineral. Zeolite is, in fact, a mineral found in nature, widely used by the food industry for the production of supplements, which allows the skin to return terrestrial dust at the end of its natural life cycle. This is why, unlike other leathers, those tanned in this way can become compost, making this material even more circular, which is born as a by-product of the food industry.
The leather of the “Dress Your Soul” project inspired the homonymous collection of biodegradable and compostable leather dresses with ecological finishing and lining in recycled polyester fabric with ecological process sublimation print signed by Ilaria Toncelli stylist, contemporary artist and founder of the brand sustainable “Sorry I’m Different”.
The collection, designed to minimize leather consumption, will be presented, together with the Project, during the third edition of Phygital Sustainability Expo®, the sustainable fashion and design event of the “Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society” which will take place on 11 and on 12 July at the archaeological complex of the Trajan’s Markets-Museum of the Imperial Forums in Rome.
